It’s finally arrived! Our first outdoor youth training session gets underway this Friday 17th April. And with the weather promising to be gloriously sunny (ok that’s wishful thinking), what better place to spend your Friday evenings than watching your young and not so young ones running about outside having fun, and hopefully learning a bit about cricket too! Multi-skills starts at 5.30 p.m. through to 6.30 p.m. and U9s, U11s and U13s all starting at 6.00 p.m, with U9s finishing at 7.15 p.m. and U11s/U13s finishing at 7.30 p.m. The bar will be open, and weather dependent the BBQ will be on. Sue Barnden and myself will be there from 5.00 p.m. for registration, and don’t forget if you register and pay before Friday 24th April there is a £5.00 discount on the membership fee for the season.
Following on from the great successes of last year I am really looking forward to the forthcoming season. All our playing age groups won their leagues which is absolutely brilliant, with the U11s and U15s reaching the county finals – an awesome achievement.
We welcome some new lead coaches this year, who will only complement our established coaches. James Sturla will head up Multi-Skills. James has taught PE for 19 years, and is currently Assistant Headteacher in charge of Pastoral Care and Special Educational Needs at a secondary school in Buckinghamshire. Last season he coached the U9s where his eldest son was, and is moving to Multi-Skills where his 6 year old son will be. Frans Gerber will be lead coach for the U11s. Frans is passionate about cricket and has played league cricket in both South Africa and the UK. Last season Frans also assisted with coaching the U9s, he also coaches the U10s at Banbury Rugby Club. He enjoys seeing the players develop their cricket through having fun during training.
The full coaching team will be:
Multi Skills: James Sturla, Harriet Boland, Chloe HIll
U9s: Stuart Armstrong, Amy Freeman, Emily Ong, Parent
U11s: Frans Gerber, Harriet Boland, Stuart Murray
U13s: Assif Hussain, Adnan Ahmed
U15s: Neil Megson, Anna Tait
U17s: Jamie Briggs
Hope to see as many boys and girls as possible this Friday. New members are always welcome and encouraged to come along and join (and add to) a thriving youth section at Banbury Cricket Club.
