Match report by Mark Austin
Women's Indoor Softball Game 4 v Oxenford today saw the return of a couple of former Captains, including a National Champion, as well as a loanee player. It also saw us produce our best all round performance.
Katie Cross took on the Captain's role again as we were asked to field. Lucy Hunter, a member of the fabulous National Champions winning U13 squad of 2013 and former Women's skipper, opened the bowling with a Royal wicket (Google it). Each of their pairs struggled to score big whilst losing multiple wickets which was a credit to our collective superb bowling and fielding. Everyone took at least one wicket in their 2 overs with our loanee, Fleur Eden (5 runs for 1 run), plus Zoe Pugh (7-2) and Katie (12-2) the pick of the bowlers. They scored 78 for the loss of 8 wickets so a net score of 38.
In reply, as long as we didn't rack up wickets in the against box, then this should have been a formality to chase and so it proved. First pair, Lucy and, another former skipper, Zoë Lee, batted cautiously and nearly got us to the line putting on 29 without losing a wicket. Loanees Sarah Cox and Fleur put on a solid 37 for 0 leaving the final pair, Katie and Zoe P, to bat freely and pile on the runs. They did so, adding a fantastic 48, albeit for our only blemish. We finished with our best total ever, 114 runs for the loss of only one wicket. So a net score of 109 and a victory by 71 runs.
Next week sees us play Steventon then, on 7th January, the rearranged fixture against the same opposition
