Women’s Indoor Go Second With a Win!

Match report by Mark Austin

Game day 5 as we took on Horspath in the Women’s Indoor League. Both teams scored 106 runs but, by nature of us taking 6 wickets to their 3 (1 each per pairing and no Run outs), we won by 15 runs.

Bethany won the toss and elected to bat. Fleur from Deddington joined us again and opened with Chelsea, together they put on a disciplined 37 for the loss of only 1 wicket. Katie and Karen Cross paired up next and against some solid bowling added 29 for the loss of 1 wicket off the penultimate ball. Final pair Zoe Pugh and Beth added 40 for 1 including a fine 6 off the final ball to take us to a net score of 91.

In reply Horspath’s 1st pair got off to a flyer but crucially lost 2 wickets as did each of their pairs. Thereafter, some excellent all round bowling and fielding restricted their chase. Needing only 54 off 8 overs and 39 off 5, we took wickets at important times including 2 bowled by Katie in the 9th and Zoe went for a misely 4 in the 11th leaving Horspath to get 30 off the final over which proved too much. They finished on net 76.

As you’ll see from the table we have a slim chance of winning the League if Moreton suffer a surprise stuffing in their final game and we hammer 2nd bottom Eynsham. We play last on Saturday so we’ll know what we have to do. Whatever happens it’s been great to watch the girls winning but also encouraging each other. It bodes well for the season ahead!
