Banbury cricket club’s 2nd XI starting the season in emphatic style by beating Kidlington 2XI by 181 runs in the first friendly of the season at White Post Road.
Banbury, under the leadership of Ally Jarvis batted first and openers Ally Jarvis (67 not out) and Chris Smith (102 not out) started the season in good form with an unbeaten opening stand of 170 before both batsmen retired to give other team mates time at the crease. It was Chris Smiths first senior hundred for the club. Stuart Armstrong scored a quick fire 55 before he also retired. Kidlington got some rewards for their hard work in desire in the field claming for wicket. JP was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 2 for 51 runs from 13 overs and Jamil 2 for 24 from 6. Banbury had posted a huge score of 301 for 4.
Kidlington’s reply didn’t get off to the start they would of wished losing the early wicket of N Jeacock for a duck being run out with the score on 8. A second wicket stand of 38 was the highest partnership of the innings between Ryan Amor and J Ewers, Chris Board dismissing the pair on the way to claiming 5 wickets for 36 runs from 14 overs. Kidlington lost wickets at regular interval and were all out for 120. Azar Shar and Marc Haup both claim 2 wickets apiece.
“I was pleased with the way the game went. Ideally you would have liked a closer contest but the main objective in at the start of the season is to get batters to have a bat in the middle and bowlers to have a run out.” Ally added
