Match report by Matt Miller
Banbury U15s beat Horley U15s by 136 runs yesterday evening to make it 5 league wins out of 5 so far this season.
Batting first, Banbury racked up 195 for 3 from their 20 overs. Dan S and Ben M led the way with unbeaten half-centuries, ably supported by Tom F (21), Murray S (14), Joe M (24*) and Zeeshan A (18*).
The whole team has worked very hard this season on strike rotation and aggressive running, and that hard work is starting to pay off.
A great performance with the bat was then backed up by another very strong showing with the ball and in the field.
Ben M (3-0-7-0), Shiva S (4-0-13-1) and Zeeshan A (3-1-13-0) kept things tight from the start, which then allowed the ever consistent Archie H (4-0-7-1), Theo W (2-0-3-1) and Freddie H (4-0-11-3) to pick up regular wickets as Horley tried to increase the run rate. In particular, it was great to see Freddie H bowling so well, after his hard work and steady improvement in the nets this season.
The fielding from the team was also spot on, with Evan A exceptional in a superb all-round performance featuring three good catches, two run-outs, and a couple of sharp stumpings for Dan S as well.
As always, a very big thank you goes to Mark ‘The Eskimo’ Wolton (umpire), Dave ‘The Stat’ Finlay (scorer), the Triggs massive (#superfans) and of course all the other parents (and many dogs!) who came to watch the boys again last night. Your help and support is never taken for granted.
We finish off the league season tonight up at WPR, with a 6:15pm start vs Cropredy. All are very welcome, and the bar will be open.
