Spirited Effort as the 3rd XI Claim a Draw

Match report by Neil Megson

Where do I start, lots of incredibly hard work by many people sorting teams this week, our cause not helped with Rob Wilson Fry having to drop out 2 hours before the game due to covid isolation… The third team travelled to play Kingston Bagpuize 1sts on the biggest ground we have seen in many a long day.. The team included an 18,17 two 15 and two Under 12s..an absolute joy to have them in the side.. I was certain with all our kids Kingston would put us in if they won the toss, but no they batted.. Seb Finch with his first 3rd team wicket and Alex Badger both bowled well with no luck.. But we kept it tight, at 100-1 Kingston were well placed, I then thought it a good idea to bring on our two U12s, they preceded to bowl 8 overs, 3 for 42…absolutely magnificent effort by both.. Ben Miller with his first 3rd team wicket and 2 for the leg spinner Shivakumar Senthilkumar Sridevi….. When I had a chat with the two after the game I asked if they were nervous when I was them to bowl “No” came the instant reply from both.. ????Believe me it won’t be their last wickets … U15 Freddie Crook once again bowled superbly, he racked up 13 overs and a wicket.. 45 of our overs were bowled by under 18s as Kingston finished on 211….We only conceded 5 boundries, a truly monumental effort..
In reply we put on 50 for the 1st wicket James Mitchelmore with 20,but Kingstons opening bowlers were excellent, George Woodley and Simon Launder the best we have faced this season, we were never with all the kids going to chase down the total and settled for a draw, we finished on150-3..Lee Marland compiled an excellent 95no,as Lee said at the end ” I never felt in” but a wonderful performance from our young side in so many ways..
