3rd XI Comfortable Winners at Shipton

Match report by Neil Megson

An excellent win for the 3rd team at Shipton 2nds yesterday, in the end a comfortable 125 run win, but lots of hard work by all to get there..
My first lost toss and we were asked to bat… 3 balls in Ian Bryan is run out without facing a ball.. Ian last seen heading to one of those tall trees behind the pavilion with what looked like a length of sturdy rope and some small steps…
Lee Marland and Craig Haupt then put on 40 in even time,Lee out for 23,wickets tumbled and when Craig was out for a composed 57 we were 100-5,that soon became 130 – 7 and we were looking well short of the 200 needed…Youngsters Kieren Churchill and Freddie Crook put on 30 then I joined Kieren and we squeezed out a 40 partnership.. Kieren out for an excellent 44,i piled up some useful fantasy league points with a foxy 25no..we finished on 187-8..very happy with that in the end..
In reply we bowled absolutely superbly, Rob Wilson Fry running in like Wes Hall and Alex Badger soon reduced Shipton to 11-5..some real good new ball bowling from both, backed up in the field too..a superb run out by Will Marland/Alex Badger… Andy Priors diving one handed catch right out of the very top draw.. Wilson Fry finished with 4-17,Badger 2-9,Will Marland chipped in with a wicket too as Shipton crashed to 21-6..as the pitch died the spinners were cut lose as Shipton pretty much blocked the last 30 overs, what a joy to have 6 and 7 close catchers in play for both spinners, they toiled away but we stayed patient and bowled them out for 62 with 6 overs to spare.. Freddie Crook 1-11 and Chris Phillips 2 for 7 both excellent again.. The winning wicket an excellent low catch from Lee Marland.. A win we really worked hard for and deserved… Ian I’m pleased to inform you couldn’t tie a hangman’s knot, his day was complete when I asked him to collect the match fees… also Chris Phillips needed a ladder to retrieve his batting glove from the pavilion roof.. #dontask
