Marland and Miller Battle to a Draw

Match report by Neil Megson

A real mixed bag for the 3rds yesterday, toss won by Great Tew and surprisingly to us they batted, a top spell from Rob Wilson Fry 1-50 and Will Marland 1-15 kept Tew in check and when U12 Shiva removed the Tew captain with his first ball we were well placed.. After 30 overs Tew had reached 110….But our inexperienced bowlers found it difficult going as Tew finished on 289-7…100 coming from the last 10 overs as we just bowled far to many 4 balls… This was a score were were never going to chase down, we then lost 4 early wickets and a draw our only hope.. Lee Marland once again showing his worth as he reached 50 with wickets tumbling around him.. at 80-6 with 20 over to go it looked bleak.. Enter 11 year old Ben Miller “what am I do” he asked, just block it was the reply, something he has never had to do before… He the along with Lee batted the remaining 20 overs with astonishing maturity,he wasn’t in any real danger of getting out, Lee finished on a superb 107 and Ben 3no (56 balls, 20 overs batted for 75 minutes) in a wonderful rearguard by both off them as we stuck in for a draw… The Leagues top side Cumnor 2nds await us next week..
