A Day of Frustration for the 3rd XI

Match report by Neil Megson

Frustrating, frustrating, frustrating, frustrating, frustrating… Oh and frustrating…
That’s my feelings after the thirds dissapointing 120 run defeat against top of the table side Cumnor 2nds…Three times we got ourselves into potential match winning positions only to see them all slip through our fingers… Another toss won by me and we had a bowl.. An early wicket for Will Marland and two on debut from James Crosby had us well placed, 2 also for 11 year old Ben Miller saw Cumnor 60-5 and in real trouble.. Enter another 11 year old Shiva Senthikumar Sridevi who took 1-17 in his 7 overs, Miller finished with 2-14 as both bowled magnificently, 2 for 49 from Kieren Churchill in a good shift by him…… But Cumnor’s lower middle order batted really well, we missed a crucial catch and let them get away in the last 10 as they finished on 240-8…We really should have been chasing around 185..Still their score only about par on a good pitch and fast outfield…
In reply we got off to a magnificent start, Jack Lambden 28 and Lee Marland 57 got us to 82 in 13 overs taking the Cumnor openers apart.. But both got out in quick succession and we completely fell apart losing all 10 wickets for 38…Five ducks in a really poor battling performance on a cracking deck against a decent attack but by no way the best we have faced… Only James Crosby with 16 really troubled the scorers..
Hairdryer in hand I march into our changing room, I look for a plug and see lots of heads down in our socially distanced facility… As half the team are under 15 hairdryer gently slipped back into its box.. ????
Loads of really good performances from the kids again as their learning experience at a really good level continues…
Off to Chipping Norton we go next week, a ground I reckon in my life time I have been past 1000s of times not never been through the gate.. Onwards.
