Hector’s century fails to earn victory

CAPTAIN Benji Hector completed an unbeaten century but it still wasn’t enough to earn Banbury victory at Welwyn Garden City.

Chasing Welwyn’s 287-8 total in Saturday’s Home Counties Premier League Division One clash, Banbury fell just nine runs short in reply as Hector hit 140 runs and Luke Ryan hit 60 as they finished on 279-5.

Banbury remain in fifth place following the draw, some 42 points behind new leaders Tring Park, after their six-wicket success at Slough. Previous leaders High Wycombe could only manage a draw at Oxford.
