Defeat for the Vets on Opening Day

Match report by Neil Megson

So the Vets started the indoor league with a defeat against Cropredy. We were asked to have a hit but lost wickets regularly and at 55-5, it wasn’t looking good, we managed to bat out the overs to make 81…at least 30 short of being competitive, Andy Cross stared with the bat retiring on 25,he finished with 27,i manged to see out the overs 12no but we didn’t get enough.. Age finally catching up with us as getting to the other end isn’t as easy as it was!!

In reply Cropredy got home in the 8th over 2 down, we bowled pretty straight but they were under no real pressure to chase 81,the highlight was a truly unbelievable one handed return catch by Crossy.. The league won’t see a better catch this season..

We as ever adjourned for some nosh at a packed Auctioneer afterwards … Lots of talk of going Vegan and supping none alcoholic drinks for a change.. Waitress “. can I please have your orders” us “lagers, burgers and nachos please”

We look forward to playing our A team next week, I note they had a lucky 110 run win against Chippy , I fully expect us to stick it to them though!!
