Match report by Neil Megson
The thirds suffered a 6 wicket defeat at Chipping Norton.. With the pitch having been under covers for two days and it only getting a cut half an hour before the start I really needed to win the toss and bowl, sadly I lost it and we were asked to have a hit. Lee Marland took 16 off the first over but was soon out for 22 as the Chippy bowlers all bowled straight and well on a 2 paced deck doing plenty.. Opener Ian Bryan dug in admirably, he batted 83 balls for 32..all our batsman found the going tough with nobody really getting in,all of us stuck around to bat out the overs,my innings of 21no off 72 balls was proper old school stodge… We were bowled out in the final over for 127…another 40 and we would have been right in it..
In fact we should have been anyway but we bowled way to many 4 balls on a pitch still doing loads, we dropped 3 catches which didn’t help the cause.. With plenty of rain around and a wet ball it was incredibly difficult to get our 3 young spinners into the game, they bowled only 5 overs between them.. 2 wickets for Will Briggs, 1 for Jimmy Crosby and Fred Crook doing the damage… Chippy got home by 6 wickets in a game we really should have been closer to them in .. Great to see Sophie Mitchelmore playing her first game of the season after her nasty shoulder injury, Soph managed double figures and 7 useful overs for 17…The leagues best side Witney Swifts await us at home next Saturday.. Onwards..
