Youngsters Lead the Way for the 3rd XI

Match report by Neil Megson

What an absolutely stonking performance by the thirds yesterday beating Great Horwood 1sts by 7 wickets… Our team included an U13, 2 U15s an U16 and U18.. As well as a few of us who are getting on, but boy were the kids excellent.. Usual service by me,toss lost and sure enough we are in the field.. Horwood got off to a really solid start on a complete road at Ermont Way, 250 the bare minimum in my view.. Horwood reached 112-0 in 25 overs, i have to say we bowled pretty well, they hadn’t got away but were well placed, young Ben Miller bowing well as did the luckless Rich Gostelow..The reintroduction of James Crosby into the attack completely changed the game as Horwood crashed to 125-6,Crosser with 5- 44, a truly match turning spell by him, nobody tries harder than this fella… brilliantly backed up by Tom Anderson 2-40 also Adnan Ahmed chipping in with 2 wickets.. 1 for Gostelow as we bowled out Horwood for 176 in the 52nd over, all the kids superb in the field, in particular Tom Finley…

In reply we lost an early wicket but a superb 70 run partnership between youngsters James Bristow and Will Hutchinson put us firmley in the pound seats, Bristow out for a run a ball 36,2 big 6s into the DHL building particularly impressive for an U15.. Kieren Churchill then joined Hutch and they put on 50 in even time, Churchie out for a composed 25,it was left to Craig Haupt 22no to see us home… But the standout innings was Will’s, his first senior 50,he finished with a run a ball 82no,a cracking innings, 10 boundries in a very mature hit indeed… It definitely won’t be his last big score for the club.. We cruised home to win by 7 wickets with 10 overs to spare… A 1000 thanks to the family’s and parents who gave us such superb support and of course to Geoff, Party and Dench for producing the best pitch we have played on this season , an absolute road.. Tywford 2nds away next week… Onw
