Match report by Mark Austin
After last week's game 3 was postponed as our team were stuck on the M40 after an accident we returned to playing the Women's Indoor Cricket League yesterday in the return fixture v Horspath for week 4's game
With the skipper out, Katie Cross stepped up. We bowled first and had our best bowling display so far despite their 1st pair putting on 45 for the loss of only 1 wicket. Thereafter, we squeezed the runs and took a hat full of wickets with the final 8 overs barely going at 6 an over. Overall Horspath finished on 97 for 6 so a net score of 67. Katie went for a miserly 7 off her 2 overs, picking up a wicket too. Rosa and Zoe Pugh each picked up two wickets with Cal, our loanee from Deddington, bagging the other.
We are, traditionally, a strong batting unit albeit we do lose wickets. This trend looked likely to continue with one lost on the 2nd ball of our innings. But that was the low point. 1st pair, Karen Cross & Lizzie Tym, put on 23 for 1 and 2nd pair, Katie & Rosa Camilleri, added 28 to keep us up with the required run rate and without losing a wicket. Final pair, Zoe & Cal, got us past the score required in the 2nd over so needed to avoid losing wickets to ensure the victory was ours. They ended up with an excellent 38 for 0. Overall we finished on 89 for 1. So a net score of 84 and a victory by 17 runs.
So, having lost to them last time out if we win our other 3 games by a good margin we could win the league. We will know what we need to do as our week 3 rearranged game is after Xmas when the others have already played theirs.
