Weather was the winner

Banbury hosted Wolverton on Saturday, with Craig Haupt making his 2nd team debut. After winning the toss Banbury elected to field, giving the strengthened batting line up the best chance to win the game.

Wolverton got off to a good start with Hussain looking to take the attack to Josh Mesgon (6-0-34-0) and rattled along at a good rate. A change in pace and the introduction of spin bought about the first wicket in the 17th over as Josh Hill (10-1-46-1) remover Hussain for 39. Ash Blanchard (14-0-44-1) the removed Baker for 26.

At 76-2 the game was in the balance, but Potter and Hussain then put on a further 66, Ross Freeman (4-0-15-3) was introduced into the attack  and removed Hussain, and with the overs running down bowled Potter for 45 and Lampard for 8.

Wolvertons innings finished at 171-5 off 40 overs.

At this time Banbury had 35 overs to chase them, but after only a short time the rain came once again, and 8 overs were lost. Banbury then required 170 off 26 overs. With the dampness on the pitch and a new ball, scoring was difficult, and after 9 overs, the score was 26-2. With rain clouds building again and even more time about to be lost, Banbury had no chance to win. Within 10 minutes, the rain arrived once again and the covers went on for the 7th time of the day.

Play needed to resume at 7.03 for a game to be completed, and to sum up Banburys luck, the clouds passed, covers were removed for the first time in the day the Wolverton players assisted, and play resumed at 7.01. Banbury finished on 64-2.
