Victory on the Final Day for Women’s Indoor

Match report by Mark Austin

The final Women's Indoor Cricket game, the rearranged one against Steventon, was played earlier today. With a late dropout we only turned up with 5. We needed a huge victory to overturn the net run rate we had to Horspath to win the league.

Having lost the toss we bowled first. Their first pair put on 36 but lost 3 crucial wickets. The 2nd pair were restricted with two brilliant overs from Floss and Bethany Bidwell. So after 8 overs they had 62 with half of those coming from extras. However, their final pairing batted and backed up superbly to double their score, adding 63 but losing another wicket. They finished on a net score of 105. Floss too 2 wickets, with one each for Bethany and Katie.

In reply Katie Cross and Floss opened our reply and matched their opening pair with 36 but lost 2 wickets. 2nd pair Bethany and Karen Cross worked the ball brilliantly adding 44 without losing wickets, although some decisions by the fielding team helped us. Bethany batted again with Rosa and saved the best to last, putting on a brilliant 50 runs, our best pair score of the season, albeit a suicidal run out kept it interesting for the final two overs. We finished on a net score of 115 for a 10 run victory.

A really good season, our only loss was in the first game against Horspath with one of the wins a concession by Steventon. We finished 2nd in the league with the same points as Horspath, but lost out due to a lower run rate. We have proved to be a strong batting line up albeit there were some mad run outs costing us a few runs. We also bowled a way to many extras in the first 3 games but that has massively improved in the last 2 games.

With Indoor nets starting in 3 weeks, all bodes well for the outdoor season ahead
