The U17’s reached their second successive county final with a 30 run win against Didcot on Sunday.Batting first we were soon in trouble at 24 for 3 and when Jamie Coles was out for 29 we had tumbled to 57 for 5.It was Kieran Scott 11 and Josh Megson 39n/o [two big straight six’s and 4 fours] that helped us to a respectable 113 on a slow wicket. In reply Didcot found the going really tough as the Banbury bowlers put the pressure on, Megsons 4 overs yielded 1-8,Mark Pallett 1-15,Con Williams 1-16 , Charlie Hill 1-15 and Clarke Berry all bowled superbly as Didcot finished 83 for 5 and never really challenged. We now go forward to Sundays final against Great Tew at Horspath with a 10:30 start. The final should be a cracker as Banbury and Tew are by a country mile the best two teams in the county at this age group. There will be around 17 county players at various age groups taking to the field, add to that a player who has played for Gloucestershires first team and 2 boys who have played minor county cricket for Oxfordshire this term, it promises to be a thriller,so don’t be late.
