The U15s secured their second league win of the season at Ermont Way last Monday, against Sandford St Martin CC.Having won the toss again and chosen to bowl, in truth we were a little bit rusty in the first few overs. But then we picked up where we had left off in the first league game. Shiva S (4-0-11-2) and Archie H (4-0-8-3) kept things tight at the start and picked up wickets later, Will R (2-0-7-2) made an immediate impact with two wickets in his first over, and Ollie H (4-1-10-0) deserved more from a really accurate spell. Olly A (2-0-7-0) and Ben M (2-0-6-0) were tidy as always, and Charlie P (2-0-6-1) closed out the SStM innings very well.
We put down a couple of catches - there is still some work to do there - but it was another very good all-round performance in the field as SStM finished on 62 for 9 from their 20 overs. Several of the lads are fast becoming very good fielders and setting the standard. We also have plenty of bowling options, and it was to great see 7 bowlers being used – and all of them doing well.
In our innings, Bertie R was dismissed early on, but Thomas H (12) gave us some early momentum, then Ben M (33*) played sensibly in partnerships with Will R (7) and Olly A (3*). We reached the SStM total by the start of the 12th over, despite M Sykes (3-0-5-2) bowling a great opening spell.
So another very solid performance with the ball and in the field, and a clear improvement with the bat - after the excitement of the first game! Many thanks to our umpires, Greg P and Rich T, to Rich H for scoring (in multi-colour), and to Geoff et al. at Ermont Way for another good wicket. Thanks also of course to SStM for the game, and to all the parents and other supporters from both clubs who came to watch. After the weather we have had, it was great to see some good cricket being played.
