Banbury U15s beat Great Tew U15s by 74 runs yesterday evening to extend their unbeaten run this season.
Batting first, Banbury scored 130 for 4 from their 20 overs. Tom F (40) and Dan S (37) put on 75 from the first 10 overs, running well and punishing some short-pitched bowling from Great Tew.
But then the scoring rate slowed as Great Tew started to bowl fuller and straighter, and picked up some wickets. Even so, Ben M (22*) and Will R (14) ran hard together in the final few overs to take us up to 130.
The challenge then was to try and repeat the previous week’s superb bowling and fielding performance.
The signs were good, as both Adam G (4-0-8-1) and Zeeshan A (4-0-14-1) picked up early wickets. They were followed by accurate spells from Archie H (3-1-6-1) and Shiva S (4-0-6-0), and then Theo W (1-0-7-0), Ben M (2-0-3-0) and Will R (2-0-12-1) finished off the innings.
In truth, we didn’t really bowl full or straight enough throughout, but we still restricted Great Tew to 56 for 4 off their 20 overs.
There might be some trickier games ahead, but this was another very solid performance with bat and ball and – as ever – the energy and encouragement from the boys in the field was great to see.
