Match Report
Banbury CC U11 Super 8 Softball team welcomed Kidlington CC to White Post Road, for a return fixture. Banbury’s captain for the day, Oliver Andrews, extended the welcome by walking out to the ‘middle’ with Kidlington’s skipper, Luca van der Linden, for the pre-match rituals. Kidlington won the toss and elected to bowl first.
All four pairs of Banbury’s batsmen acquitted themselves superbly and not one wicket was lost during their 16 overs, the partnerships being as follows: Ben & Rudi, 24 runs; Oliver and Callum 20; Freddie and Diego 24, Noah and Charlie 23. Top scorers were both Ben and Oliver with 13 apiece, Banbury setting Kidlington an imposing target…
In reply Kidlington were kept in check with an impressive all round display of bowling, catching and fielding; the stand out bowler was Ben who bowled a double wicket maiden in one of his two overs resulting in a comfortable victory for the home side. Yet again, Kidlington were a great bunch of cricketers to compete with and both sides well and truly displayed the ‘gentlemanly’ nuances of cricket.
Kidlington voted Ben as Banbury’s Man of the Match for his aforementioned double wicket maiden and, in return, Banbury voted Kaden as Kidlington’s MoM for his gutsy batting display after being felled by a rising ball hitting him on the forehead. Our thanks to Kidlington’s coach, Marco van der Linden, their umpire, Jamie, and our drinks/refreshments’ ladies, Kirstan and Rachael, in helping to make the match an enjoyable affair!
