Smith spins Sandford to victory

Banbury 2nds suffered the first defeat of the season at the hands of Sandford.

Having lost the toss (9 out of 10 games) Banbury were put into bat by Sandford captain Martin Anson.

The innings got off to a dreadful start when Lloyd Sabin was LBW for 0 in the 2nd over. Andrew Sabin and Steve Beck built a solid platform before they both fell with in an over of each other. Beck was given out LBW (a shocking decision) of the bowling of Anson for 39, with the score on 74 in the 23rd over. Then 3 balls later Sabin was caught at mid off trying to hit Smith over the top for 28.

The game then slowed and 10 runs were scored off the next 7 overs before Chris Board was caught and bowled by Smith.

The only other significant contribution to the innings came from marc Rorich, who made a patient by extrememly valuable 60 no. as wickets were falling around him.

Banbury closed 183 – 0 off there 53 overs. With Smith the pick of the bowlers taking 5 for 58 off 20 overs.

Unfortunately, the Banbury bowlers never hit consistent line and lengths and the Sanford innings motored along at 5-6 runs an over. This was due to the agressive innings of Sandfords aussie Brendon Ham who scored 78 off 80 balls, before falling to the bowling of Liam Manley.

The introduction of spin prolonged the game, but the result was never in doubt and Sandford cruised home 5 wickets down in the 42nd over.
