Phillips Turns the Screw at Great Horwood

Match report by Neil Megson

I had one job yesterday, win that toss .. Sadly lost it and Great Horwood asked to bat on a damp, soft very green pitch.

Wicket in the first over, but Lee Marland and Craig Haupt used all their experience to get us to 50,the ball going up and down at regular intervals .. Lee out for 24 and Craig for 34 to unplayable deliveries… We then found it really tough, survival being our only thought,Craig Lynes batted some time, but wickets tumbled and we found ourselves 126-8 and in all sorts of trouble.. We felt 150 would have been enough.. Ollie Murrey and Jimmy Crosby just dug in, Ollie didn’t play a shot for 5 overs, Crosby out for a superb 24 great hit by ‘Bing’. Ollie took it to their bowlers in the last 5 as he finished on a brilliant 48no and the team on an out of sight 205-9..

In reply Ollie and Tom Anderson bowled well with absolutely no luck, but the intervention of mature spinner Chris Phillips changed everything.. He bowled 10 overs 7 for 33,an absolutely magnificent spell of bowling, I’m guessing his best ever return for the club,he’s a bloke any sports team would want in their side, talks rubbish most of the time, swears a lot, wears god awful shoes and shirts, but plays every week, often when injured, gives 100% all the time.. Oh and likes a pint too… Well bowled Cake old lad well bowled… We dropped a couple of catches but took a couple of good ones too..

Great that all our side stayed for a couple afterwards, that’s an absolute requirement for this team at away games this season.. Twyford 2nds at home next week.. Onwards
