MID WEEK SIDE WIN BRACKLEY MID WEEK CUP

The Midweek side were yet again victorious at Cropredy winning the Brackley Midweek Cup beating Byfield in the Final.

Banbury were put into bat by Byfield after losing the toss, which was a good job really as there were was only half a side there at 5.30pm at the start of play.

Eddy Phillips & Mike ‘Smoking’ Salmon put a respectable 50 on the board for the first wicket.  Eddy finishing on 33 after chancing his arm one to many times, playing on.

Paul ‘Cutty’ Cutler entered the crease on a bad run of form with the bat, this continued being bowled for 3.

Mike ‘Smoking’ Salmon was caught behind for a solid and patient innings of 15

In came the New Zealand import of Ant ‘Bully’ Bullick who picked up where he left off in the semi final by carting the bowling to all parts of the ground.  A rapid innings consisting of 2 huge sixes and 1 four, finishing on 29, unable to wait any longer for a long hop, carting it down deep midwickets throat.

In came Ian ‘Tomo; Thomas with a cameo of an innings.  Slogged everything finishing on 29 with 1 six & 3 fours. A master class in midweek slogging

Banbury finished on 147 for 6.  Decent total at Cropredy.

Banbury got off to a brilliant start in the field.  Opening batsman run out for 0 after a tremendous throw by Clark ‘Goose’ Berry down at fine leg.

Goose then went onto bowl a tidy spell trapping the other opener LBW for 0. He went on to finish with figures of 1 for 21

Liam ‘Manners’ Manley bowled well after a shaky first over.  Still looking a little Pinky & Perky after his bout of Pig Flu.  Finished with 2 for 19

The win was never in doubt after this excellent start.

Andrew ‘Bean’ Proctor finishing with 3-17, after a tremendous spell of swing bowling.

Jimmy ‘Squirrel’ Phillips finished with 1 for 24, although forgot that he wasn’t playing Home Counties Cricket by bowling 5 leg side wides in 1 over.

Jonty ‘The Kooks’ Cooke finished with 1 for 13.

Just managed to finish before the rain came, claiming the Midweek Cup which was hoisted aloft by the skipper for the day Edward Phillips.

A thoroughly deserved victory by all accounts.

An emotional end to the midweek season for Bean who is handing the midweek reins over after 5 years at the helm.
