Banbury sides had a mixed week in the indoor league on Tuesday evening. Banbury were playing Charlbury whilst Banbury A were up against Preston Capes.
Banbury batted first and scored 125 thanks to an opening partnership of 70 between Chris Smith and Danny Harding. Charlbury bowlers found it hard as they handed Banbury 40 runs in extras.
Chalbury never really looked like achieving the huge score and finished on 74 for 5. Andy Harris bowled well taking couple of wicket in only his second game, including a sharp leg side stumping by Danny Harding.
Banbury A were edged out by one run against Preston Capes in a fantastic game. Preston Capes batted first and were tittering a little at 43 for 4 in after five overs. Rob Williams, former Oxon skipper was still at the crease and he rescued Preston Capes to advance their score to 92 all out, being the last man out on 46. Azar Shah taking claiming three wickets.
Banbury A’s response started cautiously, although losing Steve Beck early Banbury A were still in the hunt of victory. Paul Hill and Neil Megson added 20 before the former was run out. With Banbury still requiring 40 of 3 overs it looked like the game had gone but a combination of good straight six from Neil Megson and a few scampered runs Banbury A needed nine runs from the final over. Neil Megson (31)was run out first ball and it left the only remaining batsman Azar Shah to gain Banbury A a victory. It was all down to the last ball and Banbury needed two runs for victory………. Azar Shar went for a wild swing to hit the wall but spooned it up in the air for an easy catch. Banbury had lost by 1 run.
It was a much improved peformance from the previous week.
