Craig Haupt scored a superb century at home to Finchampstead to help Banbury’s season get back on track.
Haupt scored 137 not out to help Banbury reach 261-5 against Finchampstead, who secured a draw on 231-6.
After four consecutive defeats, Banbury needed a good performance to help turn around a disappointing summer.
The start was delayed by 25 minutes because the stumps were slightly out of line, which led to a reduction of seven overs.
After choosing to bat first, Banbury openers Paul Taylor and Chris Smith found the going very tough against Finchampstead’s opening attack on a pitch of uneven bounce.
Smith departed on 27. This brought in Haupt, who recovered from a nervous start to put on 70 for the second wicket with Taylor, before the latter fell for 37.
Skipper Richard Kaufman, was bowled for nought, but Nathan Hawkes and Calum Taylor shared excellent partnerships with Haupt to get the Banbury total past 250.
Haupt’s century came off 126 balls and his innings of 137 included 26 fours.
The Finchampstead openers took the attack to Banbury’s bowlers and they were handily placed at 72-0 at tea after only 14 overs.
Both openers departed in quick succession as Banbury’s bowlers began to apply pressure.
Finchampstead got behind the clock and Nick Denning and Alan Jones played out time for a draw.
Jimmy Phillips picked up three wickets and Luke Ryan two as spin dominated.
