We are delighted to announce that we have had 4 successful winners in the 2021 Oxfordshire Grassroots Cricket Awards! The awards seek to reward and recognise volunteers across Oxfordshire who have made a difference to their club or community group. Our winners were lucky enough to receive their awards on Saturday 18th September, alongside the Finals Day at Wormsley!
The winners and their respective categories are as follows:
Unsung Hero
Martin Phillips – “Martin has been involved with Banbury cricket club for over 30 years, in the previous 12 months his contribution has been staggering. We lost out Caterer’s, Bar Manager and Groundsman due to the pandemic and Martin has practically covered all roles ever since. Not only that, due to a lack of qualified coaches, Martin took on the task of running an U11 age group, rather tentatively at first, but he was a massive hit with all players and parents and enjoyed it so much they are still playing matches now. He arranged fixtures for every Sunday, taking up even more of his time. Banbury Cricket Club will be forever in debt to Martin, he is a true legend and without him, the club would absolutely not be the wonderful place it is today.”
Game Changer
Alex Badger – “Alexander has played youth cricket through all age groups at Banbury CC & is currently in the senior teams. In September he is going to University for Teacher Training, however, the club has benefitted from this caring and educational approach for many years as he has coached the multi-skills age group on Friday youth night, supports any holiday camps/coaching and always on hand to volunteer and help with any club/county events at the club. An all-round great role model for the children.”
Olly Badger – “Oliver has played youth cricket through all age groups at Banbury CC & is currently in the U19s, however gives so much more back to the club. He is the youth representative on the main Club Committee, for several years has coached the multi-skills age group on Friday youth night, supports any holiday camps/coaching, always on hand to volunteer and help with any club/county events at the club and this summer has regularly supported with all the ground work at White Post Road.”
Jack Lambden – “Cricket administration is not always high on the agenda for participants under 25. Jack plays Saturday league cricket, but should be recognised for captaining a midweek league side for over 5 years bringing through a number of youngsters to senior cricket and the challenges of fielding a team each week, he is always on hand if a further coach is required on Youth night but most importantly Jack took on the role of Club Secretary. Jack is always at the club and brings superb organisation and enthusiasm to his role being a role model for the younger club members.”
Safe Hands
Jack Lambden – Hard work in ensuring the club remained SafeHands and Club Mark compliant.
