Defeat for Women in 1st ever “Home” game

After a mid-morning scramble for a pitch due to a double booking at Horton View the 1st ever Banbury Women’s home fixture against Charlbury on Sunday was played “over the hedge” on Bodicote’s ground.

Having won the toss we put them into bat and their two openers were sent back with the score only on 1. This brought J Chambers to the crease who anchored their innings scoring 37 before being run out. No other Charlbury player reached double figures. Our bowling was excellent with skipper Linda Wren (2) the only multiple wicket taker, but everyone contributed with either a wicket apiece or tight bowling figures. However 3 dropped catches may have made a huge difference to the total. Charlbury were all out for 89 in 28 overs.

In reply we lost steady wickets and were languishing at 17 for 5 in the 10th over & 35 for 8 just after drinks after 15 overs. However, a 9th wicket stand between two Under 13 Girls, Alicia Richardson (14) & Pia Davies (13 Not out) gave us an outside chance but it proved just too much as we were all out for 73, losing by 16 runs.

Thanks to Bodicote Rec Committee (for the last minute use of their ground), Paul & Luke (preparing the wicket), the Tractor chap(mowing outfield), Gillian (getting the Guide Hut for teas), Dave (chief of teas), everyone who contributed to teas, Brian (umpire) & Charlbury Ladies for a very friendly game.
