Banbury 2nd XI were back to winning ways against bottom side Kimble. After winning the toss Banbury invited Kimble to bat first and backed themselves to chase the target the ever reliable Banbury wicket.
Kimble got off to a positive start with 36 runs coming from the opening 6 overs. Banbury pegged things with some tight bowling and soon made the pressure pay with Ollie Murrey making break through, bowling Ali Russell for 13. The Kimble wickets fell at regular intervals and were unable to form any real partnerships. Azhar Shar and Ian Adams taking 9 wickets between them. Ian returning after missing the previous week had match figures of 5 for 51 of 16 overs and Azhar Shar 24 overs 3 for 78.
“We bowled and fielded excellently, we have got a young and agile side and we have saved 15 – 20 runs with our fielding each game this season” We were happy with the score as they got off to a really good start and to have Kimble score 121 in 44 overs was a great comeback”.
Banbury’s innings didn’t start well at all after losing Ian Tew for 4, Eddie Phillips for 11
and Ollie Murrey for 1. Banbury were 30 for 3 after Kimble has opened up with two spinners. Skipper Ally Jarvis and brother in law Rorich produced a forth wicket stand of 45 to steady the ship. After Jarvis went for 26 and that brought Stu Armstrong to the crease. The pair produced a 40 run partnership before Rorich was out for 31. Stu and Chris Board guided Banbury to victory with more than 10 overs to spare. Stu Armstrong was unbeaten on 57 and Board 11 not out. Whiston took 4 for 61 off 18 overs for the visitors but didn’t have any support from the other bowlers.
Captain Ally Jarvis said “After winning the toss we decided to bowl first and chase their total. Over the past few weeks Kimble have been very defensive and have inserted teams to bat and then they struggle to get the runs. We wanted 30 points and at Banbury it is hard to bowl side out on a good track so we backed ourselves to chase”.
