Banbury Young Gun’s Achieve the Double

Banbury Cricket Club’s Under 13 team have had a fantastic season winning the North Oxfordshire league and completed the double by winning the Oxfordshire Plate final on Sunday. Banbury Under 13’s beat Oxford & Horsepath Under 13’s by 6 wickets. Banbury elected to field and bowled the opposition out for 69. Alex Blanchard was he pick of the bowlers taking 4 wickets for 8 runs in his allotted four over spell. Chasing 70 to win Banbury lost two early wickets but Ed Smith 30 not out and Phil Warson 19 not out guided Banbury to victory in the 17th over.

Ally Jarvis, coach and team manager said, “The boys have done really well this season and deserve their success through their hard work and commitment they have given”. The boy’s train each week with fully qualified coaches (Ally, Level 2) and club professional Paul Taylor (Level 3).” We have got four boys that have represented their respective counties throughout the season, which has clashed with most of the club fixtures, but this has not been a problem due to the number of players we have. It is unfortunate that the boys have missed so much of the club cricket but it ‘s a great honour to represent your county and equally it also provides greater opportunities for other boys to play in the Banbury team” Ally added.

Whitney Simpson, youth cricket sponsor for the club, the club has set very high standards and this is being echoed throughout the whole club, it’s great to see so many youngsters training every week, after all, the youngsters are the future of the club.
