Banbury Out of National 20/20

Banbury were beaten by Horspath in the National 20/20 last night by 34 runs in a high scoring game on Horspaths small ground.Losing the toss and being asked to field Banbury were hampered by the fact that two players were caught in traffic and we had to field with 9 men for 6 overs ,but the Horspath openers Robbie Eason and Jimmy Phillips[no not that one] put on 140 for the first wicket, both batted really well, when both were out Banbury pulled it back at the death as Horspth finished on 193.Josh Megson 4 0 31 1,Ash Blanchard 4 0  29 1 bowled well but Ross Freeman 4 0 28 1 was the pick of the bunch, the highlight in the field was a brilliant one handed diving catch from the last minutes call up ,arthritic keeper Neil Megson to dismiss his old mate Shabaz Ali!! In reply Banbury suffered a disastrous start,Ed Phillips adjudged   lbw !!! and with Steve Beck and Ash Blanchard all gone we were 15 for 3 in 3 overs.Lloyd Sabin showed his class knocking singles and some big hitting ably assisted by Jamie Cloes they put on 70 for the 4th wicket after Coles was out for a solid 25 Charlie Hill came and went as Sabin carried on playing superbly.Josh Megson hit his second ball for six ,but Sabin  was run out by a direct hit for 65 in a superb innings.Megson then hit 2 more six’s but by now we needed 17 an over and when he was out for 28 the game was up and we finished  34 short,as ever great hospitality from Max and the gang afterwards.
