BANBURY Cricket Club’s Andrew Sabin was recognised and rewarded for his long-standing services to coaching and coach administration last Friday at The Brit Oval Twenty20 international.
The Sky Sports Rewards and Recognition Scheme award was presented to former Oxfordshire batsman Sabin by ex-England skipper Nasser Hussain.
Eighty coaches from across the country have been recognised for outstanding service to the community.
As well as opening the batting for Banbury’s first and second teams this season, scoring 83 on Saturday (see page 20), Sabin coached the club’s under nines and under 11s, and district under 13s and under 15s in 2006. Banbury’s under 11s won every match played last season and he coaches them again this year, along with the under 13s and Oxfordshire under 13s.
Sabin is a sporting all-rounder and also helps to coach Bloxham under 11s boys football team.
Coaches in the scheme who are linked to the recognised 1,450 ECB focus clubs, will receive a 50 per cent bursary when attending and completing an ECB Level Two coach education course or higher.
