Match report by Neil Megson
Normal service resumed, toss won and I ask Abingdon 2nds to bat… Surely the youngest ever opening bowlers in the clubs history,15 year old Will Marland and Ben Miller who is 11..10 overs in and Abingdon are 15-1, a wicket for Marland,it could have been more in his best spell of the season, Millers spell was 5 3 4 0..remarkable for one so young.. Will Briggs then came on and bowled really well and after 33 overs Abingdon had crawled to 90-1,a wicket for Kieren Churchill, 2 for the evergreen Mike Simpson and 3 for the excellent Briggs as they finished on 178-7..we felt they were well short an so it turned out..
Lee Marland and Ian Bryan went off at pace, 90 up in quick time, Lee out for a superb 62 Ian for a controlled 26..Will Briggs with 22 and Will Marland 11 kept things ticking and although we lost regular wickets we got home comfortably by 3 wickets with 6 overs to spare, father and son Fred and Gary Crook seeing us home..
Great to see all our 1st and 4th team players watching, shows where we are as a club right now, blokes in the firsts interested and supportive of our lower sides, believe me that’s not the case at many other clubs… Cheers fellas, support much appreciated..
The only moan of the day from Geoff was he didn’t see much cricket as the bar was busy all day.. Top stuff.. Mike sent me a nice picture of him celebrating our win in his tub last night with what appears to be a class of red… Onward
