Banbury Cricket Club – Youth Newsletter February 2019
With the season rapidly approaching, Richard and Anna just wanted to let you know about some key dates and information about what has been happening within the club over the winter months.
We are delighted to have Paul Taylor taking on the role of Chairman of Cricket within the club, PT has a wealth of experience, having played professionally for eighteen years for Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and England. He has also worked within cricket for many years, as an administrator and Level 3 coach – he is currently Director of Cricket Participation for Surrey County Cricket Club, where he has worked for fourteen years. He was Director of Cricket and professional at Banbury CC from 2002-2007. Part of his role will be to further develop closer links between youth and senior cricket, and he will also be involved in the coaching of some of the youth teams.
There are several facility improvements that we are planning for the start of the season. We are looking at having new practice nets installed at White Post Road as the current ones are old and not really fit for purpose. We are also going to install a new electronic scoreboard. We are in the process of submitting a planning application for the nets and commencing some fundraising initiatives to help with the costs so any ideas for events we can hold, or fundraising would be gratefully received. We are also having a new large, flat screen TV fitted in the club house (taking down the awful pictures of us in yellow jumpers thank goodness) and having Sky TV installed so that we can be available for sporting occasions throughout the year.
With regards to finance, it costs over £50,000 to run the cricket club each year, which we must find from sponsorship, subscriptions and fundraising and as you are aware, everyone involved does so on a voluntary basis, so a massive amount of work is involved, especially when we are looking to update facilities so any support that you could provide us with would be greatly appreciated.
So, for the impending season, some key information is as follows: –
1) Youth Coaching Times and Membership Fees for the 2019 Season Coaching times:
- Multi-Skills 5.45pm to 6.45pm (N.B. Please note slightly later start time)
- Under 9’s 6.00pm to 7.00pm
- Under 11’s 6.00pm to 7.15pm
- Under 13’s 6.00pm to 7.15pm
- Under 15’s TBC
Membership Fees
- Multi-Skills £45
- Under 9’s £60
- Under 11’s – Under 19’s £70
- Junior Match Fees £3 per match
2) Early Bird sign on in conjunction with NatWest CricketForce on Saturday 6th April 2019 The clubhouse will be open from 10.00am until 2.00pm for early bird registration, if you can spare some time to help around the club in preparation for the start of the season, we would be most grateful.
3) Saturday 13th and Saturday 20th April 2019 The clubhouse will be open from 10 a.m. until 12.00 a.m. for additional registration days.
4) Outdoor Youth Training commences on Friday 26th April 2019 Age groups are Multi-Skills, under 9’s, Under 11’s & Under 13’s and they all train on a Friday night, Under 15’s training night is still to be confirmed. U17’s and U19’s to train with seniors on Tuesday (at Ermont Way) and Thursday evenings (at Whitepost Road).
Matches:
- Under 11’s – Sunday mornings usually 10.00am start
- Under 13’s – Thursday evenings usually 6.00pm start
- Under 15’s – Monday evenings usually 6.00pm start
- Under 17’s – Monday evenings (matches start once U15’s season finished, usually mid-July)
- Under 19’s – various
Please note that all fixtures will be on the website and your coaches/managers will confirm selection, times and venues with you before each match.
5) Last youth outdoor training session will be Friday 16th August 2019
