Marc Andrew Rorich, the former Banbury Cricket Club All-rounder, died on Wednesday 8th June 2016, after a long battle with liver problems. Marc is survived by his son William, his uncle Craig Haupt, and several loving family members both in the UK and South Africa.
Marc was born in Cape Town in 1979. He moved to Banbury during the summer of 1996, to join his uncle Craig at Banbury Cricket Club. Craig and Marc had grown up together as brothers under the same roof in South Africa, and their reunion in Banbury was to spark many happy years both on and off the cricket field. This was much to BCC’s benefit as Marc produced several memorable performances on the field and created lots of happy memories for those who played with him through his kind nature off the field.
Marc was an exciting and entertaining cricketer, capable of swinging the ball both ways at pace, athletic in the field and a capable batsman who scored quickly once he was established at the crease. He was an invaluable part of the Banbury side which won the inaugural Home Counties Premier League. This was not only Banbury’s most successful side, but arguably the most exciting in its history. Marc regularly took the new ball ahead of former England fast bowler Neal Radford, and had the ability to trouble the best players on the circuit.
Marc makes several appearances on the ‘honours boards’ at Banbury Cricket club which recognise centuries and five wicket hauls for the 1st XI in league cricket at the White Post Road Ground. Not only is Marc one of only five players who feature on both the batting and bowling honours boards but he holds the second, third and fifth best bowling performances on the bowling honours board. Marc was at his most dangerous in the 1999, 2000 and 2001 seasons and during that period he produced figures of 7-15 (vs Banbry XX), 8-66 (vs Bicester and North Oxford) and 6-19 (vs Luton) in home games alone.
He will be remembered as one of the most talented and exciting players in Banbury Cricket Club’s history.
