Banbury Youth Cricket – News 2016
Hello and welcome to the first Banbury Cricket Club Youth Section News Letter for 2016. Planning for the new season has kicked off in earnest and there have been a number of dates identified, so I thought that it would be a good opportunity to communicate the key points.
Announcements
Anna Tait and myself have taken over the joint chairmanship of the youth committee. For those who were with Club last year you will appreciate the challenge we have to match the fantastic job done by Christine.
Registration – Early bird registration date
The early bird registration day will be held at the White Post Road ground on the 2nd April between 10:00 and 13:00. A discounted membership fee will apply for applications received on this day. Registration fees’s for 2016 will be:
Youth (£60 to £50)
U9’s (£45 to £40)
Multi skills £5 (£30 to £25)
Natwest Cricket Force
We continue to take advantage of the Natwest Cricket Force Scheme. This is a national event and this year it will be held on the 2/4 – to coincide with the Early Bird Registration. This is one of the key events of the year as there is lots to do to get the ground ready, the nets up and the boundaries set for the new season.
This year we are also expecting NatWest staff to be at the club so it would be great to see a lot of volunteers from the club.
From the youth perspective I think it’s important for the youth players to participate so they understand how much work is needed to keep the ground in good condition – they only need to spend an hour doing some weeding etc. so any help would be fantastic.
Serious cricket try before you buy – 5th May
Serious Cricket are the suppliers for branded Banbury CC kit. They have offered to run a try before you buy session at the ground. This is a great opportunity to try out the 2016 Bat Ranger and they will have representative’s onsite to provide advice on bat or equipment selection. Unfortunately we could not get them there on a youth training night so it will be an extra visit on the evening of Thursday 5th May.
Youth Training nights
Will continue to be on Fridays at the White Post Road Ground. The first session will be on the 15th April. The U15 training will be held in conjunction with the mens’s training on Thursday evening..
Coaches
Coaches for the various age groups have nearly been finalized. The provisional list of coaches is
Multi Skills*: Various senior and youth players have volunteered but adult figure head required
U9: Stuart Armstrong .
U11: Frans to continue as lead coach, with Alex Badger assisting ( entered into two leagues – Super 8s hardball and U11 league).
U13: Assif to continue as lead coach (entered into two leagues – the Gauntlett Goblet 8-a-side and U13 league plus the Ron Maudesley Cup)
U15: Anna and Neil to continue as last season (entered in the U15 league)
U17: Not entering competition this season.
U19: Jack Lambden to captain.
*Currently There are a number of senior players who can help with the multi skill sessions including a number of the under 15 players. However we still need an adult figure head who can act as a contact point. They will have lots of coaching support so previous experience is not required and a parent helper would be ideal.
This is a really rewarding way to spend a couple of hours on a Friday evening and as a large percentage of our older players have transitioned through every age group a really important part of our long term strategy. If anybody is interested in helping them please contact Anna or myself.
