The 5th’s continued their winning streak,
beating Shipton Under Wychwood 3rd’s
at Horton View to leave them still unbeaten for the season.
Winning the toss Banbury
elected to field and soon had Shipton in trouble at 20 for 4 with some good
bowling form Joe Wetherill and excellent catching from Mobbsy and Pallet Jnr.
However , thinking the game was
already over, standards dropped and a steady partnership moved the score
on. A fine knock of 50 by 12 year old
Charlie Miller for Shipton being the notable score, Shipton finished on 140 all
out, Joe Witherill taking 8 for 22 with a fine spell of inswing bowling. Took him a while to get used to the inswing
as he normally bowls away swing, and
Proc 2 for 24, all wickets coming from one end.
Banbury batting was slow but
steady and at 60 for 2, steady progress was being made albeit a little behind
the clock. Luke Wetherill with 20 odd
and Saj weighing in with a lusty 6 but in general a very calm innings. Having to up the run rate looking for the
win, wickets fell in quick succession leaving Banbury 100 for 7 with 5 over’s
remaining.
Next at the crease joining Jack
Lambden was Proc. Jack asking “I assume
we’re batting for the draw” to which a quick reply of “are we hell”. Some good tip and run and well guided shots
by Jack Lambden and forceful hitting by Proc, guided Banbury home with 3 balls
to spare. Proc finishing on 27 not out
and Jack Lambden finishing on 20 Not out (I think).
Again a good all round team
performance with special mention to Joe Wetherill for his 8 for 22, although
some lessons to be learnt to take into next weeks game.
