Banbury fall just short

 FROM OXFORD MAIL

A brilliant rearguard innings by Jonny Cater just failed to bring Banbury victory in their Home Counties League Division 1 match at home to Tring Park on Saturday.

Chasing a target of 248 for victory, Banbury slipped to 99-5.

Cater launched an assault with 81 not out off 63 balls with four sixes and five fours, but the hosts fell short on 238-9 to lose by nine runs.

After the early Banbury batting failed, Cater received good support from Luke Ryan, who thrashed 39 off 26 balls.

Tring, whose chose to bat first, got off to a flier, with seamer Brady Barends conceding 68 runs in ten overs.

Richard West, who captured 5-42 in his ten overs, restricted Tring to 247-7 from their 50 overs, but it proved to be just out of Banbury’s reach.
