The poor weather struck while the 5ths were fairly well poised leaving Banbury to pick up only 1 point in a draw away to Oxford 4ths.
Having lost the toss and asked to bowl first Banbury started well, with Tyrone Eals and Mark Pallet keeping things tight. Joe Weatherall then provided the brake throughs banbury were looking for dismissing both openers in a very tidy spell. Oxford however put on a good 5 wicket partnership as they reached 162-5 from there 43 overs (reduced due to rain). Tyrone also proved able to handle the pressure of a second spell at the death as the Oxford batsmens struggled to get him away.
Banbury’s reply was patiant and lead by youngster Will Hawtin. Will batted with great maturity, oftern telling the more senior batsmen how to handle the situation. At 60-1 from 22 overs banbury were very well placed however shift in momentum put banbury 67-4 after 26 over, still not badly placed in a run chase needing 95 from 17. Then the rain came for the second time and the game was called off Banbury undone by the weather came away with 1 point while Oxford picked up 13.
On the up side the 5th team are showing alot of potential. There was a lot of talent on display and an eagerness to perform which spells good things to come I’m sure.
