Asif Hussain played the innings of the season so far with a brilliant 155 n/o as the thirds took the lions share of the points against Shipton 2nds yesterday.Losing the toss we were asked to bat and found the going tough but Jamie Coles and Josh Hill put on 46 for the first wicket, Hill out for an attractive 37,Asif Hussain then joined Coles and they worked really hard and after 29 overs we were 89-1.Coles was caught behind for 28 but Kieran Scott and Hussain started to up the run rate Scott on debut out for a tidy 12,youngster Siam Hussain joined and played the perfect foil for Hussain’s pyrotechnics at the other end,Hussain mixing good running and majestic stroke play put the Shipton bowlers to the sword.Asif’s innings was truly remarkable, he hit 21 fours,1 five and 4 six’s as he finished 155n/o young Siam batted superbly again to finish 25n/o as we finished 280-3 from our 53 overs. In reply Dan Bartlett and Iffy Mahmood stated well but Craig Wood opened his shoulders with a quick fire 56,when rain halted the proceedings Shipton were 110 -2 from 21 overs, Mahmood taking both wickets. We got 13 points and Shipton 2.Asifs innings was without doubt the best ever by a Banbury third team player and will live long in the memory of all who were there. This team continues to surprise me,we had 4 guys on debut yesterday,we have used 24 players this season and only myself ,Mike Thomas and Mark Rorich who remain from the first league game, i am sure its only a matter of time before Becky completes a set for the seconds. All of the players who have come up[ hardly anyone come down] have performed superbly, all of the young players have had and will be given responsibility and not hidden away.It was great to see some club members make the trip to Shipton to support the team, much appreciated ,Finally Asif ,a great innings mate a privilege to see it .
