The 4ths travelled to Cokethorpe School to play Oxford Downs 3rds. Acting skipper Richard Lambden won the toss and opted to field.
Mark Wright and Clark Berry were unlucky not to grab an early wicket or two passing the outside edge on a number of occasions and restricting Downs openers to scraps. However, Kirk Steel gradually increased the run rate and Banbury needed some luck to change the game back in their favour.
This came with the introduction of Mitch. He enticed West (24) to a top edge which Wright & Mark Pallett both went for with Pallett taking a superb catch over his shoulder running away from the wicket behind square leg. Thereafter Downs wickets fell regularly with nobody other than the openers scoring double figures. Mark Pallett finished with 2 for 27 from his 7 overs, Clark Berry coming back on for a 2nd spell taking 3 for 25 from 11 in total and Mark Austin taking his first ever Cherwell League wicket getting Steel (128) trapped LBW. Downs finished on 200 for 8.
In reply, Banbury lost Tom White in the 2nd over without a score on the board and were 3 down before the score had reached 50 but they were always keeping at or around the required run rate. However, each time a partnership started developing wickets fell and with the loss of the last recognised batsmen, Tom Hill & James Mitchelmore, in successive overs (27 & 28) with the score on 106 Banbury needed to struggle home for a draw. They eventually finished on 169 for 8 with Clark Berry (34 NO), Tom Hill (32) and Charlie "Chloe" Hill (24) the top scorers. Wilson finished with 4 for 30 from his 10 overs.
