Banbury 4th’s continued their winning way, with a 155 run win over Oxford Downs at Horton View.
Banbury won the toss and batted first on what looked like a pretty flat track. Despite the early loss of Tom White, Ian Thomas and Anas Ahmed picked up the temp and reached 65 of the first 10 overs. Thommo was looking particularly good in his 1st game of the season, preferring boundaries to running quick singles in the heat! After Thommo (51) and Anas (32) were out, Richard Lambden continued the fast scoring, racing to his 50 of 37 balls, eventually holing out for 86 (off just 67 balls). With some late hitting from Adnan Iqbal (20) and Mitch (25 no), Banbury made 273 for 8 of their 45 overs.
Oxford Downs made a quick start to their innings, despite Banbury putting down a couple of chances in the early overs. However, once Anas Ahmed bowled one of the openers, the scoring rate slowed with some tight bowling from Anas and Mark Pallett. Once Justin Lambden came on with his leg spin, the game changed dramatically – a wicket in his first over and another one a couple of overs later had Oxford Downs in deep trouble. Despite a bit of consolidation, a change of ends for Justin, backed up by some improved ground fielding from the team, brought about a quick end to Oxford’s innings, eventually being all out for 118. Justin Lambden was the star of the bowling, finishing with 6 for 31 (off 11 overs), and capped off a great day for the Lambden family (with a couple of jugs back at the club for the team!).
