Banbury Under 11’s travelled to Overstone Park CC on Sunday for the Norhtamptonshire Finals day. Playing the second semi of the day against Towcester we were inserted and it soon became apparent that it was gong to be a tall order to set a competative total against some tight bowling. After our 16 overs we posted 226 having lost 4 wickets with the top scorer being skipper Will Briggs with 17. All credit to our batsmen who played with a correct technieque, never threw away their wicket but ultimately could not get away the excellent Towecester bowling, this was highlighted by the fact that they only gave away two no balls and no wides!
Unfortunately we then produced a bowling display way below our usual standard and failed to apply any pressure on Towcester and after 16 overs Towcester finished on 264 with the pick of the Banbury bowlers being Alex Bury with 3 overs one maiden 1 for 4.
It has to be said that with a young squad we had exceeded all the coaches expectations by reaching this final and also the Oxfordshire final which is against Oxford Downs, hopefully the expericence from Sunday will help the players in that game.
