A swashbuckling century from Craig Haupt laid the foundations for 85 run win against Birmingham League outfit Moseley in the ECB Cockspur Cup.
The left hander ended on 125 form just 116 balls smashing 13 fours and 3 sixes.
At the other end Jaimie Noble provided the prefect foil for Haupt’s brutality working the ball into gaps while treating any loose deliveries with ruthless distain. The popular newcomer was eventually adjudged LBW for 72 as he and Haupt amassed an 181 run partnership for the 2nd wicket.
Banbury’s healthy total of 260 would always be a tough one for Moseley to chase on a used wicket which possessed little pace and looked set to take some spin.
Simon Launder and Paul Taylor took the new ball and immediately began to hit the right length in the dry conditions. Given no other option in the face of a large total Moseley opener ‘Jock’ McCleod began forcing the issue, hitting some lusty blows over the infield and taking advantage on the fielding restrictions in place for this competition. Moseley passed 50 in the 11th over with out loosing a wicket.
The Scotsman’s fun was soon to end however as he was brilliantly caught at mid off by superb diving effort from an unknown fielder, off the bowling of Launder. Taylor struck removing the other Moseley opener in the following over.
Moseley’s resistance was effectively over and Jimmy Phillips and Ashley Blanchard ripped through the middle order leaving the visitors on 108 – 7. Young Blanchard claiming 3 scalps and bowling impressively on a rare 1st team outing.
Off spinners Noble and Chris Board also bowled tidy spells and the home side completed a professional fielding performance in the 44th over as the last wicket fell with the score on 175.
Banbury face an away trip to Dunstall on Sunday the 17th June in the Regional Semi-Final of the Competition.
