Over 100 volunteers took part in CricketForce 2007 at Whitepost Road over the weekend of 31st March/1st April. This equated to approximately £7,500 of voluntary labour that was used to prepare the ground for the forthcoming season.
Banbury CC were also very fortunate in having nearly £1,000 worth of materials supplied free of charge by B & Q, Homebase, Wickes and Swan Foundry which enabled the work to take place. Tesco’s supplied bread rolls free of charge and Wykham Lane Farm shop also subsidised the cost of beef burgers and sausages for the workforce, who were kept fed and watered throughout the event. Tea, coffee, orange squash and the occasional pint of the finest helped make the event a huge success.
Painting and gardening teams completed various projects around the Whitepost Road facility. The painters were renovating benches, painting fences, painting boundary boards and scoreboard, whilst the gardeners were edging the driveway, tidying and trimming borders and hedges. We also had a net building team who constructed two portable net cages. The outfield was also cut and the square was cut and rolled.
It was a hive of activity, which has helped to galvanise the club together. Mums, dads, brothers, sisters, aunties, uncles and grandparents all took part and leant a hand. Nationally, CricketForce 2007 had 1150 clubs taking part, involving 80,000 volunteers and over £30m of investment in what has become sport’s largest volunteering event ever.
A HUGE THANKS TO ALL WHO TOOK PART!!!!!!
