HENLEY 2nd have been docked 30 points after fielding an unregistered player during their Division 2 game at home to Tiddington in the Oxford Times Cherwell League on Sat- urday.
Henley won a remarkable high-scoring game by three wickets, scoring 308-7 in reply to Tiddington’s 306-3 dec.
One of Henley’s leading scorers was named in the official scoresheet as Jeremy Palmer, who made 50.
However, Henley have now admitted that Palmer did not play in the match, and that the batsmen to score those crucial runs was Jonathan Hancock, a long-standing Henley member.
Hancock, brother of former Gloucestershire batsman Tim, did not play for Henley last season, and had not been re-registered as the league rules demand.
After making enquiries, league secretary Peter Tomlin deducted the 30 points Henley gained for the victory, and awarded Tiddington 30 instead of their 17.
Henley could now suffer further punishment when the league meet to discuss the case on Monday if they are found to have knowingly sent in the scoresheet with a wrong name on it.
Henley 2nd had already been docked five points on the first weekend for failing to send in their match report form before the deadline, and five more the following week for failing to supply an umpire.
So they are 40 points down in total and now stand second from bottom in the table.
No-one from Henley was available for comment.
