On Sunday 11th June Dave Caiger & I took two teams (names listed below) to an U10’s Kwik Cricket tournament at Combe. On a very hot day, the boys all performed extremely well, considering most of their opponents were older & more experienced in competitive cricket and for the majority of our players it was their first tournament.
The teams were split evenly by ability and age. Team B were put in a difficult league but managed 3 wins, only losing to the teams that finished above them, Ducklington A (the current holders and winners again this year) and Combe A, thus just missing out on a semi-final spot. Team A finished 2nd in their group, their only loss (by 1 run), to Freeland A, so qualified for the semis. In the semis they were well beaten by Ducklington A which meant a 3rd/4th place play-off against Combe A. Despite a hat-trick against us the match was still in the balance going into their final over but we ended up losing by 10 runs. Each boy received a medal for finishing 4th.
Everyone in the Banbury teams performed to the best of the ability contributing to a great day and were a credit to the club. You should all be proud of your efforts. Well done boys.
Finally, we would like to say a big thank you to all of the parents for their help & support on the day and to Combe for organising such a brilliant tournament.
