A superb 114 from Scott Moore supported by batting from John Best, Paul Foster and Bob Blanchard set the foundations for the win against Abingdon Vale 3s as the home side amassed 231-8 before stand in captain for the day Paul Foster declared with one over to go! The extra over proved crucial as Banbury bowled out Abingdon in the 47th over with 5 Balls to spare for 154. The win was neccesary in order to keep the promotion showdown with Kidlington alive.
With the captain making regular bowling changes at the right times wickets fell at regular intervals however with 8 overs and still 4 wickets required it looked as though the darw was the likely out come. But young leg spinner Sam Ryan took the cruicial wicket which opened the flood gets and the remaining wickets fell with ease. Seven bowlers were used in all, Nick Best, Steve Paxton, Trevor Parry, Scott Moore, Sam Ryan, Cakes Phillips, and Richard Robbins who took the final wicket with Mike White taking a sharp catch at short mid off to seal victory.
Banbury remain in third place behind Kidlington 3s who are just 1 point ahead. Had the 30pts earlier in the season had not been deducted Banbury would only need 2 pts for promotion, as it is a victory or a draw where Banbury score 2 more bonus points than Kidlington would secure promotion.
Good luck to the lads next week!
