Banbury 4ths beat Sandford St Martin 2nds to record their 1st win of the 2013 season last Saturday.
Winning the toss Banbury inserted the hosts. This turned out to be a good decision as wickets fell regularly as in a bowling performance only marred by by an expansive extras column (44).
Adil and Tom Hill looked to put pressure on Sandford early on, and runs off the bat were not found easily. Both openers struck early on with Hill returning figures of 3-36 and Adil 2-15.
Cunningham (30) and Goffe (11) provided some stability in the middle order for Sandford but the captain, vice-captain bowling partnership of Phillips and Partington finally broke through. Phillips however suffered a slight re-occurrence of an ‘old’ rugby injury in the process of bowling Cunningham and had to bring himself off with figures of 2-16. Partington continued from the other end and finished the job, 3-12, as Sandford were dismissed for 116.
Banbury had time on their hands with 59 overs to complete the job. Mitchlemore and Hassan Ahmed (33) got them off to fantastic start with a partnership of 82 for the first wicket. Ahmed the fell leg before and Mitchlemore was bowled by Cunningham, 4-23, for a very impressive and chance-less 51.
Banbury then suffered a lapse in concentration as wickets fell quickly and they soon found themselves 116-6 (and no-body actually ready to bat) again the captain, vice-captain partnership held firm to finish the job with an unbeaten partnership of 1.
