Match report by Neil Megson
So the season is off and running for the 3rds/4th mixed side yesterday at the lovely Stanton Harcourt ground…
Stanton batted first and our South Carolina/Edinburgh combo of James Crosby and Mikey Brown opened the bowling, both beat the bat regularly.. A wicket for Brown, then 3 for the excellent Tom Anderson on debut as Stanton tumbled to 60-4…our spinners then all bowled well, 2 wickets on Debut for Will Hutchinson, 2 for Kieren Churchill and 2 also for veteran Steve Partington,3 excellent catches, one from Dave Finley again on debut and 2 from Anderson.. Stanton all out for 140..
In reply Anderson raced to 18 before getting out.. But we then found the going tough as Stanton bowled well, a worldie catch to get rid of Hutchinson and at drinks on 21 overs we were 51-3 Craig Haupt 27 not out… But the introduction of their spinners changed the game as Haupty cut loose, taking 40 in 3 overs as we got home in the 32nd over, Dave Finley 13 no seeing us home.. Craig finished on an excellent 87 no,the old fashioned value of ‘Getting in first’ never more appropriate than in this innings.. Many thanks to Stanton for hosting and in particular my old mucker Chris Pascoe… We look foward to a return vist in the league in June…
On a personal note is my 44th season of senior cricket, i cant remember looking forward to a season like i am to this one in years…our club is definitely stronger in depth as we have been in ages, the vibe at the club is as good as I’ve seen too.. finally what a joy to have the opposition bring out a try of drinks yesterday, first time thats happened in two years… Small things.. Onward
